Tanglin Halt's Redevelopment Journey - Part 1

The Journey of Tanglin Halt's Redevelopment - So Far!

Since redevelopment plans commenced in 2004, Tanglin Halt has undergone close to 20 years of change. Here is a summary of key milestones till date:

2004: Kicking off the redevelopment ball ⚽
  • SIT flats in Tanglin Halt (Current Blocks 57, 61 and 67 to 73) and flats at site currently occupied by current Commonwealth 10 (Former Blk 50 to 54) selected for Selective En-bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS). Residents will move of Commonwealth View (Blk 89 to 91).
2007: Construction of Commonwealth View completed and residents have moved over.

2008: Round two kicks off
  • 7 blocks (Former Blk 74 to 80) at the site currently occupied by Tanglin Halt Cascadia selected for SERS. Residents will move to Commonwealth 10 (Blk 50 to 54).
2013: Construction of Commonwealth 10 completed.


2014: A landmark announcement for the final wave
  • All remaining blocks within Tanglin Halt estate selected for SERS. Residents will move to projects across 5 sites in Queenstown (Sky Residence @ Dawson, Sky Oasis @ Dawson, SkyParc @ Dawson, Dawson Vista, and Forfar Heights).
2021 to 2022
  • Completion of all replacement sites and residents have moved over
  • Commonwealth drive food center and shops (Former Blk 1A/B/C and Blk 46-1 to 3), at site currently occupied by Phase 1 of Tanglin Halt Courtyard, closed in mid-2022 after move to Margaret Drive Hawker Centre and demolished after.
2023 to 2024: Entering a New Chapter
  • Launch of Tanglin Halt Cascadia in Oct 2023.
  • Announcement of redevelopment plans for Tanglin Halt estate shortly after, with plans to build up to 5,500 new flats in the estate over the next 10 to 15 years.
  • Announcement on the use of several sites within the estate as temporary homes under the Parenthood Provisional Housing Scheme (PPHS) scheme in Feb 2024.
  • Phase 1 of Tanglin Halt Courtyard launched shortly after.

2025 to Present (June 2026):
  • Flats under the PPHS scheme have been spruced up and have been progressively let out since late 2025.
  • Blk 24 to 32 was demolished by late-2025. After site reinstatement, workers were observed conducting soil investigation works at the site since early-2026.
  • Blk 71 to 73 (SIT flats) were demolished by early-2026. This will allow for infrastructure works, such as the construction of the covered drainage and widening of Commonwealth Drive, to commence soon. More information will be shared soon!
  • Right across the estate, demolition works for former New Town Primary and Secondary campuses (which commenced late-2023) were substantially completed in early-2025. Workers were observed conducting soil investigation works since late-2025.
